Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Coffer ("Coffer", "we", "us") is a read-later application for iPhone, iPad and Mac,
operated by an independent developer. This policy explains what happens to information
when you use the Coffer app and the website at coffer.app (together, the "Service").
2. Information we collect
We do not run servers that store your personal data. We do not require an account, and we do not collect names, email addresses, or contact lists from inside the app. Specifically:
- Your reading library — article URLs, parsed text, images and reading status are stored on your device and, if you enable sync, in your own private iCloud database. They are not transmitted to us.
- No analytics or tracking — the app contains no third-party analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, and no cross-app tracking. We do not use IDFA or any device identifier for advertising.
- Crash and diagnostic logs — the app writes local diagnostic logs using Apple's unified logging (OSLog). These stay on your device unless you choose to share them with us when reporting a problem.
- Purchases — payments are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your payment card details. Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized sales reports.
3. How the app handles your content
On-device article parsing
When you save a link, Coffer downloads the page and extracts the article body on your device using a bundled copy of Mozilla's Readability. The page is not sent to us or to any parsing service. As with any browser, the website you save will see a request from your device's IP address.
Offline images
Images referenced by a saved article are downloaded to your device so the article reads offline. Those requests go directly from your device to the image's original host.
iCloud sync
If you use more than one device, Coffer syncs through Apple's CloudKit into your private iCloud database. This data is governed by your Apple ID and Apple's privacy terms; we have no ability to read it.
On-device AI
On devices that support Apple Intelligence, summary and question-answering features run using Apple's on-device Foundation Models framework. The text of your articles is processed locally and is not uploaded for AI features. There is no API key and no per-use fee.
4. Third parties
We do not share your data with third parties for marketing or advertising. The Service relies on:
- Apple — for iCloud sync, App Store distribution and in-app purchases. Apple's handling of data is described in Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Websites you save — when you save or refresh an article, your device contacts that website directly. Their own privacy policies apply to those requests.
- Our website host — if you visit
coffer.app, the hosting provider may keep standard server logs (IP address, user agent) for security and operations.
5. Your rights (GDPR, CCPA and similar laws)
Because we do not hold your personal data on our servers, most data-rights requests are satisfied directly inside the app:
- Access & portability — export your entire library to Markdown, HTML or PDF at any time.
- Deletion — delete individual articles in the app, or remove the app to delete its local data. You can also delete Coffer's data from iCloud in Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage.
- Correction — edit titles and metadata in the app.
If you believe we hold information about you and wish to exercise a right, contact us at privacy@coffer.app. We will respond within the period required by applicable law. We do not sell personal information as defined by the CCPA.
6. Data retention
We retain no server-side copy of your library. Data on your device and in your iCloud account remains until you delete it. Aggregated App Store sales reports may be retained by Apple according to Apple's policies.
7. Children
Coffer is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because we do not operate accounts or collect personal data, no such data is stored by us.
8. International transfers
We do not transfer your data internationally because we do not receive it. iCloud sync is operated by Apple and may store data in the region associated with your Apple ID, under Apple's terms.
9. Security
Your library is protected by your device passcode and by Apple's encryption of iCloud data in transit and at rest. No method of storage is perfectly secure, but keeping your data off our servers removes a large class of risk.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date on this page. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
